Ten day Kaikoura & Marlborough self-guided cycling tour

A more relaxed version of our popular 8 day cycle tour, with 10 days cycling to the top of the South Island and the beautiful Marlborough Sounds.

This tour takes you from Christchurch to Kaikoura and the spectacular Pacific Ocean’s coastal scenery. Then it’s on to the vineyards of Blenheim, before the relaxed pace of the Marlborough Sounds.

From Anakiwa it’s back to Blenheim for a quick bike around the vineyards to end the trip.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1 We will meet you at your accommodation in Christchurch with bicycles and equipment and you then cycle to Waipara.
Day 2 Waipara to Hanmer Springs
Day 3 Rest Day Hanmer Springs
Day 4 Hanmer Springs to Mount Lyford
Day 5 Mount Lyford to Kaikoura
Day 6 Sightseeing day in Kaikoura, where you can take in a whale and dolphin watching tour, swimming with the seals, or any of the many other attractions, before an afternoon cycle to Kekerengu
Day 7 Kekerengu to Blenheim
Day 8
 Blenheim to Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds
Day 9 Anakiwa to Blenheim via an alternative route
Day 10 End of tour with a free morning to visit the vineyards before the afternoon train back to Christchurch or continue on our 19 day or 28 day 'Top of the South' tour to Christchurch/Queenstown. Additional option of a further day in Blenheim to visit the vineyards [*adds $125NZD per person]

  • Trek Mountain Bike for touring (with road tyres) brought to your accommodation and personally fitted or Mongoose Randonneur specialist touring bicycle [700c wheels & drop bars]
  • Ortlieb Rear Pannier Bags, front handlebar bag and comprehensive repair kit
  • Detailed itinerary, maps and notes on points of interest that you will pass
  • You can upgrade to an Avanti Vivace road bike available in combination with daily luggage transportation, contact us for further details

Accommodation

Nine nights accommodation in twin rooms with bathroom ensuite [where available], in carefully selected B&B's, home stays and small, friendly motels (Breakfast included).

Difficulty

This is a moderate level route with an average 50 to 85 kms cycling per day and a number of moderate hill climbs along the route.

Your gear can be waiting for you at the end of each day. This service costs an additional $1000 per person (minimum of 2 people) although a discount is available for 3 or more people.
