Four day Kaikoura/Pacific Ocean self-guided bicycletour

This trip starts from our base in Christchurch and begins with a gentle cycle through the vineyards of Waipara and Amberley. Then its off to the splendid isolation of your farm stay at Mount Lyford.

From Mount Lyford, it’s a steady descent to the Pacific Coast and the pleasant seaside town of Kaikoura. In Kaikoura you have a chance to take in the dramatic scenery, whale-watching or any of the many activities on offer.

You then have an afternoon train journey, which passes the seal colonies that dot this spectacular coastline, back to Christchurch.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1 We will meet you at your accommodation in Christchurch with bicycles and equipment and you then cycle to Waipara.
Day 2 Waipara/Amberley to Mount Lyford
Day 3 Mount Lyford to Kaikoura
Day 4 Kaikoura to Christchurch on the train

Equipment Included

  • Trek Mountain Bike for touring (with road tyres) brought to your accommodation and personally fitted or Mongoose Randonneur specialist touring bicycle [700c wheels & drop bars]
  • Ortlieb Rear Pannier Bags, front handlebar bag and comprehensive repair kit
  • Detailed itinerary, maps and notes on points of interest that you will pass
  • You can upgrade to an Avanti Vivace road bike available in combination with daily luggage transportation, contact us for further details


Accommodation

3 nights accommodation in twin rooms with bathroom ensuite [where available], in carefully selected B&B's, home stays and small friendly motels (Breakfast included).

Moderate difficulty route with an average 50 to 90kms per cycling day

Your gear can be waiting for you at the end of each day. This service costs an additional NZ$495 per person (minimum of 2 people) although a discount is available for 3 or more people.
