Six day Alpine Pacific Triangle self-guided bicycle tour

This trip starts from our base in Christchurch and begins with a relaxed ride through to the vineyards of Waipara and then on to the geo-thermal hot springs of Hanmer and/or cycling the local trails.

From Hanmer it’s the moderate hills and quiet country roads with the spectacular back drop of the inland Kaikoura mountain range of the Alpine Pacific Triangle.

In Kaikoura you have a chance to take in the dramatic scenery, whale-watching or any of the many activities on offer.

You then have an afternoon train journey, which passes the seal colonies that dot this spectacular coastline, back to Christchurch.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1 We will meet you at your accommodation in Christchurch with bicycles and equipment and you then cycle to Waipara.
Day 2 Waipara to Hanmer Springs
Day 3 Rest day and sightseeing in Hanmer Springs
Day 4 Hanmer Springs to Mount Lyford
Day 5 Mount Lyford to Kaikoura
Day 6 Sight seeing day in Kaikoura, where you can take in a whale and dolphin watching tour before returning to Christchurch by train

Equipment Included

  • Trek Mountain Bike for touring (with road tyres) brought to your accommodation and personally fitted or Mongoose Randonneur specialist touring bicycle [700c wheels & drop bars]
  • Ortlieb Rear Pannier Bags, front handlebar bag and comprehensive repair kit
  • Detailed itinerary, maps and notes on points of interest that you will pass
  • You can upgrade to an Avanti Vivace road bike available in combination with daily luggage transportation, contact us for further details

Accommodation

5 nights accommodation in twin rooms with bathroom ensuite [where available], in carefully selected B&B's, home stays and small friendly motels (Breakfast included).

Difficulty

Moderate difficulty route with an average 50 to 90kms per cycling day

Your gear can be waiting for you at the end of each day. This service costs an additional $650 per person (minimum of 2 people) although a discount is available for 3 or more people.
