Seven day Kaikoura/Pacific Ocean self-guided cycle tour

This trip starts in Christchurch with a relaxed bike riding tour through to the olive groves and vineyards of Waipara, where you can relax and sample the produce at the local vineyards.

Then it’s on to Kaikoura through the moderate hills and quiet country roads and the spectacular back drop of the inland Kaikoura mountain range. With a rest day in the seaside town of Kaikoura, you have the option of whale watching, swimming with the seals/dolphins or any of the many other activities on offer.

From Kaikoura it’s a cycle along the beautiful Pacific Ocean coast, passing the seal colonies that dot this spectacular coastline, as you head back to Christchurch via the vineyards of Waipara and Amberley.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1 We will meet you at your accommodation in Christchurch with bicycles and equipment and you then cycle to Waipara.
Day 2 Waipara to Waiau
Day 3 Waiau to Kaikoura
Day 4 Sightseeing day in Kaikoura, where you can take in a whale and dolphin watching tour, swimming with the seals, or any of the many other attractions
Day 5 Kaikoura to Cheviot
Day 6 Cheviot to Waipara
Day 7 Waipara to Christchurch

Equipment Included

  • Trek Mountain Bike for touring (with road tyres) brought to your accommodation and personally fitted or Mongoose Randonneur specialist touring bicycle [700c wheels & drop bars]
  • Ortlieb Rear Pannier Bags, front handlebar bag and comprehensive repair kit
  • Detailed itinerary, maps and notes on points of interest that you will pass
  • You can upgrade to an Avanti Vivace road bike available in combination with daily luggage transportation, contact us for further details

Accommodation

6 nights accommodation in twin rooms with bathroom ensuite [where available], in carefully selected B&B's, home stays and small friendly motels (Breakfast included).

Moderate difficulty route with an average 50 to 90kms per cycling day

Your gear can be waiting for you at the end of each day. This service costs an additional $800 per person (minimum of 2 people) although a discount is available for 3 or more people.
